Yesterday was such a nice day that I went out in the morning to take photos and then spent the rest of the day sitting next to the river having champagne cocktails, people watching and reading my book.
Here are some of the random thoughts I had while people watching:
- So many people smoke in Europe still, I almost feel out of fashion not smoking, not that I will be taking it up again!!
- Women in Europe always look so stylish, you can pretty much spot the tourist by what they are wearing in comparison to the local women.
- I love sitting and listening to people talk around me in a different language and imagine that they are having really in-depth intellectual conversations while realising that they are probably having the same random conversations that my friends and I have. I strangely find it peaceful not being able to understand what they say.
- I could quite easily live in Ljubljana
Today I got up bright and early and headed off to Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle on an organised tour.
The cave system was amazing, you go in on a little electric train approx 2.5km and then go for an hour walk through the cave system. It is a limestone cave so the stalactites and stalagmites were impressive!
After the caves it was off to Predjama Castle, the castle was built into the middle of a cliff face and was developed out of a large cave that was already there. The castle was only for use in summer as there were only two fireplaces in the whole castle. It must have been a pretty rough life living there, especially for the servants, the castle never had more than about 30 people living there so is quite small in comparison to other castles.
Writing this early as I am off for dinner and drinks with some of the people I met on the tour today. I also ran into the English couple I met in Bled inside the cave system of all places.
